What a year it has been for the Cruise & Ferry team, and the cruise industry as a whole.

We’ve covered a wide range of industry news on our website and social media channels throughout 2025 and published four magazines – two issues of Cruise & Ferry Review and our annual publications, Cruise & Ferry Interiors and Cruise & Ferry Itinerary Planning.

We’ll be taking a break for the holidays, but our usual coverage of passenger shipping news and insights will resume in the first week of January 2025. While we’re away, why not check out some of our highlights from the past 12 months?

Charting a path to net zero

In the Spring/Summer issue of Cruise & Ferry Review, AIDA Cruises’ president Felix Eichorn spoke about the Carnival Corporation brand’s quest to reach net zero by 2050, highlighting its pioneering use of shore power, alternative fuels and AI

“In the shipping sector, the cruise industry is driving the change, and we believe that we are the leaders in this field,” said Eichhorn.

The return of a legend

Vianney Vautier talked about the upcoming launch of Orient Express Sailing Yachts in Cruise & Ferry Interiors 2025, explaining how the new line is taking inspiration from the brand’s storied history in the design of its luxurious first vessel.

“At its inception, the Orient Express was the train of the king and the king of the trains,” said Vautier. “We envision our vessel to be the very same thing at sea – to be the ship of kings.”

Raising the bar

TUI Cruises’ CEO Wybcke Meier spoke with Rebecca Gibson in the Autumn/Winter issue of Cruise & Ferry Review about the cruise line’s new class of ships, investing in advanced technologies to decarbonise operations, and championing the cruise sector as an industrial asset in Europe

“More people are recognising that cruises offer a safe, comfortable and cost-effective way to meet new people and explore the world,” said Meier.

Investing in a greener future

In the featured interview for CFR’S Ferry Business section, Emanuele Grimaldi of Grimaldi Group discussed the Neapolitan group’s record $1.3 billion investment in nine methanol multi-fuel ro-pax ferries

“The nine newbuilds represent a major step forwards for all three of our companies,” said Grimaldi.

Atlantic Canda is calling

The cover story for Cruise & Ferry Itinerary Planning 2026 put the focus on Atlantic Canada, as we explored how the region’s summer season may offer a valuable opportunity for cruise lines to give their guests an unforgettable experience

“Canada New England is a compelling strategic alternative to the crowded Caribbean during the summer,” said Sarah Rumley, executive director of Cruise Atlantic Canada.
