The 17th edition of the GreenPort Congress & Cruise conference is to be hosted by the Port of Antwerp-Bruges in Belgium from 18-20 October, with the aim of providing port authorities and shipping lines with a meeting place to discuss the latest in sustainable development.

The three-day conference will be centred around the theme of ‘Green solutions for sustainable ports by 2030’ and will cover topics including fuel and energy provision for shipping, fuel and energy for port operations, building sustainable partnerships and green cruise ships.

The first day will feature parallel cruise and congress streams, followed by a second congress day addressing environmental and technical challenges affecting commercial ports and terminals. Delegates will hear from speakers including Rolf Andre Sandvik, CEO of cruise line Northern Xplorer, discussing zero-emissions luxury cruising, and Paul Martin, director of AqualisBraemar, talking about emission tracking software for ports and harbours. Other speakers will include Linden Coppell, sustainability director for MSC Cruises; Megan Turner, environment and sustainability manager at the Port of Dover; and Brent Perry, CEO of Shift Clean Energy.

The host for this edition of the event, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, was formed by the merging of the Port of Antwerp and the Port of Zeebrugge in April 2022. The port is currently investing in efforts to reduce its carbon footprint, and is exploring methods of applying carbon capture, utilisation and storage.
