Fincantieri has delivered Mein Schiff Flow to TUI Cruises in a ceremony at the Italian shipbuilder’s Monfalcone shipyard. The ship is the second of two InTUItion-class vessels designed to operate using both LNG and marine gas oil (MGO).
Executives from both companies attended the delivery ceremony, including Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises, and Biagio Mazzotta, chairman of Fincantieri, and Pierroberto Folgiero, Fincantieri’s CEO and managing director. Prefect of Gorizia, Ester Fedullo, and Luca Fasan, the mayor of Monfalcone, also attended the event.
Mein Schiff Flow has a dual-fuel engine capable of running on MGO and LNG, as well as low-emission alternative fuels such as bio-LNG and e-LNG. It features catalytic converters compliant with Euro 6 standards, a steam turbine recovers residual heat from the diesel generators, and shore-power connection capability. This equipment is intended to enable virtually emission-free operations while the ship is berthed in port, which accounts for approximately 40 per cent of its operational time.
The ship also features a waste treatment system capable of transforming organic materials into recyclable components through a thermal process.
“With the delivery of Mein Schiff Flow, we celebrate a new milestone in our collaboration with TUI Cruises and reaffirm the strategic role of the Monfalcone shipyard as a centre of excellence in global shipbuilding,” said Folgiero. “Here, innovation, sustainability and industrial expertise are transformed every day into productive capacity and international competitiveness. This achievement demonstrates the strength of an ecosystem that continues to evolve, investing in the technologies of the future and enhancing Italy’s industrial know-how. I would like to thank all those who, through their professionalism, passion and dedication, have helped make this important milestone possible.”
Mein Schiff Flow will be christened on 20 June in Trieste after which it will set sail in the Mediterranean, before heading for Northern Europe, the Canary Islands and the Caribbean in the coming seasons.
Fincantieri is to build two additional InTUItion-class vessels for TUI Cruises, with deliveries scheduled in 2031 and 2032.
