Fincantieri has begun construction of the first Sphere-class vessel for Princess Cruises.

The first steel for the vessel was cut at Centro Servizi Navali, a company specialised in logistics and production of sheet metal for the Fincantieri yards located in north-east Italy. The ship will be constructed at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard.

The Sphere-class vessels will be the largest ships to be built in Italy, with each ship weighing 175,000gt and able to accommodate 4,300 guests. They will be the first Princess Cruises ships to be dual-fuel hybrids powered primarily by LNG.
