Dutch engineering and fire safety company, FIF4MARINE's lithium-ion battery fire-suppression system has become the first of its kind to receive RINA Type Approval.
The RINA certification – which was formally presented at SMM Hamburg 2026 – recognises the product design of FIF4MARINE’s system’s and its suitability for repeat application.
The solution removes the need to carry out the same design assessment process at the start of every project. Vessel-specific integration, class and statutory requirements will still need to be addressed individually.
“Being the first battery fire-suppression system to receive RINA Type Approval is a major milestone for FIFI4MARINE and for the work our team has put into this technology,” said Cor Meedendorp, founder of FIFI4MARINE. “Battery fire safety cannot be treated as an afterthought as electrification grows. Our focus has always been to detect early and limit escalation before a single event becomes a much larger problem. This approval is an important validation of that approach and a major step in making the solution quicker to implement across the global maritime market.”
