New luxury cruise brand Explora Journeys has made its first visit to the USA, as Explora 1 arrived in New York City for its maiden call.

The traditional exchange of crests to celebrate the ship’s first visit took place onboard Explora 1 at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal, with the ship’s master Captain Diego Michelozzi and Captain Zeita Merchant, commanding officer of the US Coast Guard Sector New York, carrying out the ceremony.

“We are very proud to bring our extraordinary new ship, Explora I, to New York City,” said Michael Ungerer, CEO of Explora Journeys. “New York City is one of the most important destinations in the Northeastern US and it is an honor to showcase our highly anticipated new ship and luxury experience in the North American market. Our team has worked tirelessly to push the boundaries of innovation and excellence to create a product that we are thrilled for guests to see when they embark in New York City.”

Explora 1 set sail on a ‘East Coast US and Canada’ cruise following the maiden call in New York. The itinerary will call in Boston in the USA and Saint John, the Bay of Fundy and Quebec City in Canada. The ship will then sail two more seven-night itineraries along the East Coast, before heading to Miami for the beginning of the Caribbean season.
