Emerald Sakara, the newest Emerald Cruises’ yacht, has departed from Athens, Greece for its inaugural sailing, an eight-day ‘Ionian Sea Adventure’ itinerary from Athens to Rome, Italy.

The luxury vessel was officially welcomed to the fleet by sister yacht, Emerald Azzurra, as the two ships sailed through the Corinth Canal in Greece.

“Launching a new luxury yacht is always exciting as the tremendous work done by our talented team of designers and builders comes to life,” said Glen Moroney, chairman and founder of Emerald Cruises’ parent company. “Being able to add Emerald Sakara nearly a year after we launched Emerald Azzurra speaks volumes about how well our yacht cruising programme has been received by guests and our agent partners. With Emerald Sakara, we are opening up even more exciting new destinations for our guests to explore.”

Emerald Sakara is under the stewardship of Captain Jonathan Edwards, who also served as the captain for Emerald Azzurra when it launched in 2022. The vessel will spend the summer sailing the coastal waters of Italy, Greece and the Adriatic. Both Emerald Sakara and Emerald Azzurra will then spend the winter in the Caribbean and Central America.

Emerald Sakara will be christened in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on 2 December 2023, by godmother Kelly Craighead, president and CEO of Cruise Lines International Association.
