Disney Cruise Line has chosen actor Robert Downey Jr as godparent of its newest ship, Disney Adventure, which is scheduled to sail its maiden voyage from Singapore in March 2026.
Downey Jr is best known for his role as Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was named an official Disney Legend in 2019 and will appear in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday, which will be released in December 2026.
“It’s impossible to describe the majesty of the Adventure, and to be its godparent is an honour. As the largest ship in the Disney fleet, a gargantuan blessing must be bestowed… I’ll do my darndest,” said Downey Jr.
Disney Adventure features several Marvel experiences, including Marvel Landing on the top decks, where guests will find Tony Stark’s Ironcycle Test Run, the first roller coaster on a Disney Cruise Line ship. The open-air Disney Imagination Garden area will host the “Avengers Assemble!” live stage production, while inside Disney’s Oceaneer Club, the Marvel Web Workshop includes new Super Hero suit prototypes and training simulations using “top-secret Avengers technology”.
Disney Adventure accommodates up to 6,700 guests and is the first Disney Cruise Line ship to homeport in Asia, departing from Singapore on three- and four-night voyages entirely at sea.
“Our new ship continues Disney Cruise Line’s tradition of bringing great stories to life at sea, and we are honoured that Robert Downey Jr, who has guided audiences through unforgettable Marvel stories, is the official godparent for the Disney Adventure,” said Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences and incoming CEO of The Walt Disney Company.
