Ferry travel comparison site Direct Ferries has handled a record number of ferry bookings to Greece this summer, noting a 35% rise compared to 2014.

Mobile bookings have been particularly popular and many foot passengers are booking £50 return tickets to travel between mainland Greece and the coastal islands.

“It is very interesting to see the number of bookings that have been made on the app, particularly in Greece – our customers definitely have not been put off by the current economic crisis,” said Andrew Crowe, sales and marketing director at Direct Ferries. “We have seen lots of people pre-booking their first ferry before leaving the UK and then booking subsequent crossings whilst in Greece using our mobile app. Once in Greece, holidaymakers are finding that there is good availability on ferry crossings and with the pound still at record highs, there is no wonder that Brits are still flocking to the destination.”
