David Herrera has stepped down from his role as president of Norwegian Cruise Line, in a decision the company described as a “strategic leadership change.”

Herrera’s departure was revealed in a filing to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. According to the filing, Harry Sommer, president and CEO of parent company Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH), will take over Herrera’s day-to-day responsibilities on an interim basis.

Herrera has been president of Norwegian Cruise Line since April 2023. Prior to his appointment, he served in a series of executive roles across the brand and its parent company NCLH after first joining the company in 2015. He also served as senior advisor to the CEO of Prestige Cruise Holdings before the company was acquired by NCLH in 2014.

NCLH will now begin “a robust search” for a new president for Norwegian Cruise Line.
