Academy Award-winning actress Dame Helen Mirren is to be godmother to Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours’ first ‘discovery yacht’, Scenic Eclipse, which will debut this August.
Currently in the final stage of construction at Croatia’s Uljanik Shipyard, the 228-guest Scenic Eclipse will embark on her maiden cruise from Reykjavik, Iceland on 15 August and arrive in Quebec, Canada on 27 August, before being christened in New York City, US on 10 September.
During the ceremony, Mirren will bless Scenic Eclipse and break a bottle of champagne against her hull to officially welcome her to Scenic’s fleet and bring good luck to all who sail on her.
“I am very honoured to have been chosen as the godmother to such a beautiful vessel as Scenic Eclipse,” said Mirren. “She will have many adventures and a wonderful life as she transports her guests in immaculate style and great safety to beautiful places.”
Scenic Eclipse, which is the first ocean vessel for Scenic, has been designed with the highest passenger ship ice-class rating – Polar Class 6 – to allow her to operate in polar waters. The yacht will also be equipped with zero-speed stabiliser fins that are 50% larger than the standard model.
Onboard highlights will include 114 all-veranda suites, six onboard dining options, various bars and lounges, a 240-seat theatre, a gym with a separate yoga and Pilates studio, and a 5,000-square-foot spa with treatment rooms, indoor and outdoor whirlpools. In addition, guests will be able to use a fleet of zodiacs and kayaks, scuba diving and snorkelling equipment, two onboard helicopters, and a seven-seat submarine.
