Costa Cruises’ ship Costa Serena will undergo refurbishment in November 2025, while Costa Fortuna, the line’s longest serving vessel, will transition out of the fleet by September 2026.

Once renovated, Costa Serena will feature a new food court and a fresh and modern design in its restaurants and bars, which will include Archipelago-starred chef restaurant, Pizzeria Pummid’Oro, and Sushino@Costa. The ship’s pools and bars will be redesigned and the guest suites will also be renovated during the dry dock project.

The refurbishment onboard Costa Serena will signal the end of the cruise line’s fleet-wide improvement programme, which began in 2021. All the ships in the fleet have been upgraded in an investment worth more than €200 million ($22.2 million) over the last five years.

“Our goal is to provide unmatched experiences for our guests while embracing innovation, sustainability and exceptional value for money,” said Mario Zanetti, president of Costa Cruises. “We are also investing in our fleet to enhance onboard experience and introducing new itineraries, including Costa Serena’s new deployment for 2026-2027 [including a world cruise from Tokyo, Japan to Buenos Aires, Argentina]. The strategy path that we started a few years ago is strengthening our offer in our key markets with a portfolio of unique vacations.”

Before being transferred to its new owner in mid-September 2026, Costa Fortuna will sail new itineraries in Greece and Turkey in summer 2025 and the Canary Islands in winter 2025-2026.
