Corvus Energy is to supply lithium ion battery-based energy storage systems (ESS) for five all-electric ferries that are being built by Havyard for Norwegian ferry operator Fjord1.
The company’s air-cooled Corvus Orca Energy ESS was chosen by total systems integrator Norwegian Electric Systems (NES) to power its all-electric power and propulsion systems. Together, these technologies will enable each of the 67-metre-long ferries to operate emission-free on four routes in Norway when they begin service on 1 January 2020.
“Fjord1 continues to forge a very progressive path towards environmentally sustainable operations with these additional all-electric ferries,” said Stein Ruben Larsen, senior vice president of Sales at NES. “The proven reliability, safety and performance of the Corvus ESS was important in awarding this contract to Corvus Energy.”
Corvus Energy has previously supplied ESS to Fjord1 ferries.
“Corvus Energy is honoured to once again be selected by NES to provide ESS for Fjord1 ferries,” said Roger Rosvold, vice president of Sales at Corvus Energy. “NES is a skilled and experienced electrical system integrator, and our close partnership with the company in designing and delivering these innovative solutions is key to accelerating the adoption of energy storage systems.”
