American Cruise Lines’ new river ship American Harmony has been moved to the outfitting pier at Chesapeake Shipbuilding’s yard in Maryland, US, well ahead of her inaugural cruise on the Mississippi River on 17 August.
American Harmony, which moved under her own power, is the second in a series of five new ‘modern riverboats’ that are being introduced on the Mississippi and Columbia and Snake Rivers in the US. The first, American Song, sailed her inaugural voyage from New Orleans, Louisiana in early October 2018.
Like her sister, American Harmony features a bow with an extendable and retractable gangway to facilitate bow landings, as well as a central multi-storey glass atrium with a large domed skylight, outward-facing staterooms with private balconies, and lounges with triple the amount of glass of other riverboats. However, American Harmony will also have 10 additional deluxe suites on her upper deck.
American Harmony will sail a series of eight-day ‘Lower Mississippi River’ cruises from the Port of New Orleans in Louisiana during her maiden season.
Chesapeake Shipbuilding is set to launch American Cruise Lines' third modern riverboat, American Jazz, from the building dock in September ahead of her debut in 2020. The final two vessels will start sailing in 2021 and 2022.
