Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Apex has successfully completed her first sea trial and returned to the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint Nazaire, France.

Conducted between 4 and 8 February 2020 in the Bay of Biscay, the trial was overseen by over 50 crew members. Despite strong wind and waves, Celebrity Apex successfully completed the test ahead of her delivery on 20 March.

“The purpose of a sea trial is to test the functionality of the ship, but this wasn’t just any sea trial – and Celebrity Apex isn’t just any ship,” said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, president and CEO of Celebrity Cruises. “In typical Edge Series fashion, the ship absolutely exceeded our expectations, performing perfectly in line with our above-and-beyond operating standards.”

Celebrity Apex will be the second of the Edge-class vessels to enter the cruise line’s fleet, following the debut of Celebrity Edge in December 2018. She will be joined by Celebrity Beyond in 2021 and two more sister ships in 2022 and 2024. ICFR got a peek at the new features onboard in a tour of the ship last month.
