Carnival Cruise Line celebrated the progress of newbuild Carnival Celebration with a coin-laying ceremony at Meyer Turku shipyard, in Turku, Finland, on 15 June 2022.

The traditional maritime ceremony was attended by Vincenzo Alacaras, captain of Carnival Celebration; Fabien Gervasie, chief engineer of the ship; Pierre Camilleri, hotel director at Carnival; members of Carnival’s newbuild team; and representatives from Meyer Turku. During the ceremony, a box containing coins, which had been temporarily placed under the ship’s keel at the start of construction, was welded into a permanent position near the mast of the ship.

Carnival Celebration will debut in early November with a 14-day transatlantic voyage from Southampton, UK, to its homeport of PortMiami in Florida, USA, as part of a continuation of the cruise line’s 50th birthday celebrations.

Carnival Celebration, sister ships Mardi Gras and Carnival Jubilee, which is also under construction and will enter service next year, are part of the cruise line’s new Excel class. Each ship features six zones, an onboard roller coaster, a three-deck atrium and newly designed suites and staterooms.
