Carnival Corporation has selected Silverstream Technologies to provide and install the Silverstream air lubrication system on Carnival Cruise Lines’ three Ace-class cruise ships, which are currently under construction at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy.

The three 230,000gt vessels, scheduled for delivery in 2029, 2031 and 2033, will be the largest ships ever built at Fincantieri and will accommodate almost 8,000 guests at full capacity. Construction began on the first vessel, Carnival Destiny, in early July 2026.

“Our collaboration with Silverstream continues to deepen as we advance technologies that further improve energy efficiency across our fleet,” said Bo-Erik Blomqvist, senior vice president for corporate shipbuilding at Carnival Corporation. “Their role in the Ace-class programme reflects a collaboration grounded in continuous improvement and aligned priorities. As we introduce these ships, we remain focused on delivering meaningful gains in energy-efficient performance to reduce our fuel use in support of our ongoing decarbonisation aspirations.”

Silverstream’s air lubrication system has over 127,000 system running hours to date across Carnival Corporation’s global cruise fleet and is installed (or ordered) onboard 18 vessels across Carnival Corporation cruise lines. The system works by reducing frictional resistance between the water and the hull surface to minimise fuel consumption and associated emissions. The system can also be retrofitted on older ships in 10 days or less.

“Building on our longstanding relationship of more than a decade, we are proud to, once again, support Carnival on their sustainability journey by installing the Silverstream System onboard the new Ace class vessels,” said Noah Silberschmidt, founder and CEO at Silverstream Technologies. “Our technology will help these ships operate even more efficiently to reduce fuel use and the associated emissions. With more than 250 orders, over 150 installations and a growing team across the UK and China, Silverstream is delivering at scale to meet the needs of the world’s leading shipowners.”
