Cape Verde upgrade underway

The first phase of the Cape Verde Cruise Development plan has been completed with the delivery of a cruise market assessment to Enapor, the Cape Verdean port authority.

Executed by B&A Europe and commissioned by the Dutch company Finance for Cruise Destinations, the study will help Enapor enhance its cruise reception facilities in Porto Grande, Mindelo on the island of São Vicente.

Plans to develop the local cruise tourism infrastructure through additional activities and initiatives are also planned, with the Cape Verde Ministry of Tourism engaged in a promotional cruise business strategy at a national level.

Cruise volumes have been increasing significantly in recent years in Cape Verde, which is located in the Atlantic ocean between the Americas, Europe and West Africa. More than 76,000 cruise visitors came to the country in 2014, compared to just over 38,000 in 2012.

Cape Verde is set to join ‘Cruise in the Atlantic Islands’, with an official ceremony and signing of the agreement potentially taking place at next week’s Seatrade Med event.
