Croatian shipyard Brodosplit has laid the keel for Polar Expeditions’ new cruise ship, which will sail in the polar regions.

According to Brodosplit, The newbuild is the first vessel in the world to be built in to Lloyd’s Register’s Polar Class 6 (LRPC6) requirements. The vessel will be 107 metres long with a breadth of 17.6 metres, and will be equipped with two main engines that provide 4,200 kilowatts of power to generate a speed of 15 knots.

“This is the first polar class of cruise ships LR PC6 that will be produced in the world,” said Tomislav Debeljak, CEO of Brodosplit. “Construction of passenger ships is the segment where European and Croatian shipyards can compete. This project has positioned Brodosplit in polar expedition vessels market.”

The ship will be able to host 196 passengers in 86 cabins. Brodosplit’s designers have created the design and technical solutions.

The ship will welcome her first travellers when the arctic cruise season starts in March 2019.
