Outfitter-designer Blu Marine started refurbishment work on Wightlink’s St Clare on 6 May after a successful bid to undertake the design, manufacture and installation of works on the operator's flagship vessel.

Improvements by the specialist marine firm will provide passengers with more spacious and luxurious Deck 5 accommodation as they travel between Portsmouth and Fishbourne.

Guests will be able to experience en-route views from comfortable new chairs and sofas, while better outside access will be available to wheelchair users.

“We are excited to be working with Wightlink on creating a luxurious modern environment and delivering this project from initial design concepts right through to installation,” Blu Marine design director Ross Welham said. “The ship will be cosy on chilly winter crossings but fresh for hot summer days and will offer unrivalled views of the Solent from every seat.”

Further enhancements include an onboard business centre with tables and charging points for mobiles and laptops for commuters wishing to work. Charging points will also be placed near the popular Costa coffee shop and lighting will be improved to save energy while at the same time creating a relaxing environment.

Blu Marine’s 15-strong team is expected to complete the upgrade by 20 May.
