Global Ports Holding (GPH) is to develop a new sustainable cruise terminal at Spain’s Barcelona Cruise Port.

The Port of Barcelona’s board of directors approved the €104.5 million ($116.8 million) project, which includes more than €50 million ($55.8 million) for the construction of Terminal C, a new 11,253-square-metre facility at Adossat Wharf. The new terminal will feature solar panels and shore power capability and will be designed to improve both the passenger experience and operational efficiency at the Spanish port.

“The new Terminal C will allow us to deliver a modern, efficient and sustainable facility that enhances the cruise experience while supporting Barcelona's long-term development as a leading cruise destination,” said Francesc Grau, regional director for West Med at GPH and general manager of Barcelona Cruise Port.

Under the agreement, Barcelona Cruise Port’s concession will run until 2050, with the option to extend it until 2053.
