Azamara Cruises has made its maiden call to the Port Authority of Ceuta in the Strait of Gibraltar.

Azamara Onward and its 1,000 passengers and crew docked at the port on 16 November 2023, arriving from Barcelona in Spain. Port officials presented Azamara Onward’s captain with a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion. The ship departed for Lisbon, Portugal, later that day.

In a press release the Port Authority of Ceuta said: “This visit shows that the port of Ceuta is attractive for luxury shipping companies, which look for different destinations that surprise even the most experienced cruise passengers. Specifically, this cruise takes onboard passengers and crew of several nationalities and its arrival in Ceuta is the result of the hard work carried out by the commercial and marketing department of the Port Authority of Ceuta with its presence in a great number of international congresses and sector events.”

In 2023, the Port Authority of Ceuta welcomed inaugural visits from 16 ships, as well as a 69 per cent increase in cruise calls compared to 2022. Visitor numbers reached almost 37,000.
