Australian operator Searoad Ferries will open its new Sorrento Ferry Terminal on 6 March 2026 following 10 years of planning and a $25 million private investment.

Constructed entirely on pylons over Port Phillip Bay, the terminal is one of Australia’s only permanent buildings built fully over water. Designed by F2Architecture and delivered by Maben Group, the project redevelops the ferry terminal serving the route between the Mornington Peninsula and the Bellarine Peninsula.

The facility includes a glass observatory floor overlooking the water beneath the building, a spiral staircase and marine-engineered gangways designed to provide fully accessible connections between the terminal and ferries while alongside. A waterfront Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, Onda, is scheduled to open in mid-March.

The development was privately funded and delivered with builders, engineers and suppliers from the state of Victoria. It forms part of wider investment in ferry infrastructure serving the route across Port Phillip Bay and is intended to improve the passenger experience while offering an alternative to road travel between the two peninsulas.
