Portuguese ferry operator Atlânticoline has partnered with IT solutions provider Carus to improve the digital experience for passengers travelling between islands in the Azores.
Carus will implement a new digital validation service to enable residents to continue receiving reduced rates when travelling between the islands. It has previously deployed a similar system in Madeira.
The system will also provide a digitally signed invoice for every ticket sale in compliance with Portuguese regulations. Carus has previously supported this process across multiple jurisdictions, including Turkey, Mexico, Honduras and Portugal.
“We could clearly see that Carus has the experience and expertise in managing processes that align with the unique requirements of our operations in the Azores.” said Ricardo Batista, executive member of the board of Atlânticoline, which connects several of the nine Azorean islands with routes varying by season.
“Our extensive experience in providing IT solutions for lifeline services will prove invaluable as we implement our system to support both local residents and tourists,” said John Bertell, director of sales at Carus. “Coming from the Åland archipelago, we are islanders ourselves, so we understand the nuances of serving communities that rely heavily on ferry transport.”
