US-based river cruise operator American Cruise Lines plans to take delivery of five new ships over the next two years. All five ships, which are currently under construction and are a mix of American Riverboats and Coastal Cats, will cater to the US market.

The ships will join the Coastal Cat vessels American Eagle and American Glory delivered in 2023, and will accommodate between 90 and 180 passengers. They will be built by Chesapeake Shipbuilding in Salisbury, Maryland. The addition of the new ships will “renew the line’s focus on the Mississippi and Columbia Rivers”, according to the cruise line.

“The new contract is an exciting expansion of the American Cruise Lines fleet,” said Charles Robertson, president and CEO of the brand. “After several years building the coastal fleet, we are once again ready to begin building out the US river cruise capacity.”
