American Cruise Lines will sail a new 16-day roundtrip itinerary on the Columbia and Snake Rivers on its new river cruise ship, American Anthem, when it launches in 2027.

The ‘Grand Columbia & Snake Rivers Cruise’ programme will begin sailing from Portland, Oregon, in May 2027. The cruise begins with an included pre-cruise hotel stay in Portland. Guests will then be transferred to Stevenson, Washington, for sailing west on the Columbia River to Astoria, Oregon, before turning east to the confluence of the Columbia and Snake Rivers near Richland, Washington. The ship will then visit Clarkston and Hells Canyon in Washington before concluding in Stevenson, Washington.

The longer itinerary has been curated to provide guests with more opportunities for shoreside excursions in Portland, Hood River and St. Helens in Oregon, as well as Burbank/Walla Walla in Washington. Available excursions include Mount Saint Helens, Multnomah Falls, Pendleton’s underground city and the Bonneville Dam. There’s also opportunities for hiking, kayaking, rail-bike and e-Bike tours, jet boat tours and flightseeing, as well as wine tasting at the Maryhill Winery, the Rivaura Winery, and several vineyards throughout the Walla Walla Valley.

American Anthem is one of three new riverboats in American Cruise Lines growing fleet. The ship will mirror the design of sistership American Encore, which is set to debut in May 2026 and has been specifically designed to cruise the Columbia and Snake Rivers. The ship will accommodate 180 guests in private-balcony accommodation and will feature numerous lounges and dining venues, a fitness centre, a multi-storey glass atrium, and a spacious open deck.
