Ambassador Cruise Line is to carry out a multimillion-pound renovation of Ambience, its first ship, at the A&P Tyne shipyard in Hebburn in North East England. It will be the largest cruise ship to enter dry dock in the region in over 20 years.

The refit will include a comprehensive list of key technical works, from upgrading the propulsion control system to replacing rudder bearings and selective catalytic reduction systems, to ensure Ambience continues to operate efficiently.

In addition, the team will overhaul the engines and carry out extensive steel and structural work throughout the tanks and hull areas of the ship, helping to ensure Ambience continues to operate safely and reliably.

A&P Tyne will also upgrade areas onboard the ship to enhance the guest experience. The team will install additional plug sockets, USB and USBC ports in cabins and suites, replace carpets across selected decks and refresh furnishings and finishes in suites, balcony cabins and public spaces. Windows will also be replaced to improve visibility.

The works scheduled for Ambience follow the recent multimillion-pound refit of its sister ship Ambition at A&P Falmouth.

“Ambience’s dry dock in Hebburn represents a significant investment in our first lady of the sea and underlines our long-term commitment to maintaining the highest technical and hospitality standards across our fleet,” said Nick Hughes, chief operation officer at Ambassador Cruise Line.

“Working with A&P Tyne allows us to support UK maritime expertise while ensuring Ambience continues to deliver the affordable quality that our guests value so highly.”

Upon completion of the works, Ambience will return to service at its homeport at London Cruise Terminal in London Tilbury, where it will depart on a 40-night ‘Jewels of the Caribbean Sea’ voyage.
