Chantiers de l’Atlantique delivered Utopia of the Seas to Royal Caribbean International in June 2024. The Oasis-class ship features provision stores and refrigeration machinery supplied and installed by Almaco Group.
The company provided equipment for approximately 3,000 square metres of provision stores including cold rooms, freezer rooms and refrigerated stores, which have all been designed to meet the highest United States Public Health quality and hygiene standards.
Almaco was also responsible for the engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning of the refrigeration machinery onboard. This includes cooling units, air coolers, piping, control system and a supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system to ensure optimal operation of the refrigeration plant.
“The successful delivery of the refrigeration machinery was a result of thorough planning and collaboration [between Almaco Group, Chantiers de l’Atlantique, and Royal Caribbean],” said Samuel Teyssier, project manager at Almaco. “We are proud of the outcome and the quality of our work. A thank you to everyone involved in making this a successful project.”
The ship’s provision had to be completed ahead of the ship’s first sea trial, when they were used by the crew and technicians conducting the tests onboard the ship.
“The fantastic end-result of this project reflects the dedication and cooperation of all parties involved,” said Vincent Querard, head of projects management at Almaco. “Completing all provision store areas before the sea trial was a significant achievement.”
