More than one million people helped AIDA Cruises to celebrate AIDAprima’s first birthday and the Port of Hamburg’s 828th anniversary from 5-7 May 2017.

On 6 May, people watched live in Hamburg, on television and via social networks as AIDAprima left her dock at Cruise Center Steinwerder and passed by Hamburg’s waterfront and the Elbphilharmonie before berthing at the Harbor Piers. A crowd sang a birthday serenade as the ship was manoeuvred to her new position. At 10:30pm, AIDAprima hosted a light show and a 15-minute fireworks display, before departing Hamburg for a seven-day Western Europe roundtrip.

The following day, AIDAluna docked at Cruise Center Hafencity from 8am to 6:30pm, while AIDAsol berthed in Altona from 8am to 7:30pm. Both ships participated in a short parade.

AIDA is one of the most frequent visitors at the Port of Hamburg and this year, six ships are scheduled to make a total of 82 calls. Next March, AIDAprima’s sister AIDAperla will begin sailing seven-day voyages from the port.
