Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines is to offer two In Search of the Northern Lights itineraries onboard Boudicca and Black Watch this winter.
Offering guests the opportunity to view the Aurora Borealis, which NASA scientists predict will be more intense this winter due to a peak in solar activity, the ships will sail to various Norwegian ports.
Departing from Liverpool on 8 November for her 16-night In Search of the Northern Lights roundtrip, Boudicca will sail to Ålesund to enable guests to take a shore tour to Hjørundfjord, before spending three days in Tromsø, where guests can take a cable car to Mount Storsteinen to view the Aurora Borealis, visit the iceberg-shaped Arctic Cathedral, and tour the Tromsø Wilderness Centre to enjoy a dog sled ride.
Boudicca will then overnight in Alta in Finnmark where guests can enjoy a concert in the Northern Lights Cathedral, before stopping at Leknes in the Lofoten Islands, which is famed for its rich Viking history and Arctic nature. The ship will then sail to the three islands of Kristiansund, which are connected by bridges on Norway’s west coast.
Meanwhile, Black Watch will offer a 16-night In Search of the Northern Lights itinerary, which will depart Tilbury, UK, on 20 December. The ship will call at several ports including Haugesund, Ålesund, Tromsø, Alta in Finnmark, Trondheim, Bergen and Stavanger.
During the cruise, guests will have the opportunity to travel on the funicular railway on Mount Fløyen, visit one of Scandinavia’s biggest aquariums, view the Aurora Borealis and enjoy various attractions, such as the Stavanger Cathedral, UNESCO-listed Bryggen Wharf, the Troldhaugen Museum, and the former home of Norway’s most famous composer Edvard Grieg.
