The new Mein Schiff 1, the fifth ship built by the Meyer Turku shipyard for TUI Cruises, has reached the next stage of the shipbuilding process, floating out from Meyer Turku’s dry dock for further interior outfitting.
"With the new Mein Schiff 1, TUI Cruises creates a whole new ship generation in its fleet," said Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises. "She is based on our existing newbuilds, which we have again developed and supplemented with new attractions. We can now see these improvements come to life and cannot wait to show them to our passengers.”
The new Mein Schiff 1 is 20 metres longer than Mein Schiff 6, which allowed for redesign and improvement of the interior spaces.
“Even more exciting is that we are rebuilding and modernising the shipyard with new recruitment and our investments," said Jan Meyer, Meyer Turku CEO. "A concrete sign is the preparations for the erection of our new gantry crane. This complicated heavy lifting procedure will start right away after the new Mein Schiff 1 has left the dock.”
Mein Schiff 1 will have her naming ceremony in Hamburg on 11 May 2018 and begin operating shortly afterwards.
