Global cruise agent Travelbag Cruise expects an increasing number of families and younger travellers to book cruises in 2015-2016.

The company, which has experienced a 44% year-on-year growth in cruise sales, predicts that younger cruisers and families will be attracted by the innovative technology and onboard venues that will be included on upcoming newbuilds. These include Royal Caribbean International’s Anthem of the Seas and Ovation of the Seas, which are expected to launch in spring 2015 and autumn 2016 respectively, and Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Escape.

“We have seen a shift in the type of customer booking cruises,” said Sean Keddy, cruise specialist at Travelbag Cruise. “Royal Caribbean International, Norwegian Cruise Line and Princess Cruises in particular are attracting younger couples and families as well as first time cruisers. These customers are looking for new and interesting additions to cruises, be this in the entertainment on offer or the facilities available.

Travelbag has also recorded a 20% year-on-year growth in the number of passengers sailing in the US, which was the most popular destination between November 2014 and January 2015. In addition, demand for Australia-based itineraries increased by 58%, while the United Arab Emirates, Japan and South America have all experienced triple digit growth.
