UK ferry operator Red Funnel Ferries has deployed Hogia Systems’ information system to provide its passengers with access to real-time, multi-modal travel information before, during and after their ferry journey.

Red Funnel, which carries more than 3.3 million passengers annually between Southampton and the Isle of Wight, has extended its existing ferry information service from Hogia – installed in 2014 – to include connecting bus services.

Using Hogia’s extended information system, a member of the customer contact centre team can easily distribute consistent information to customers who are directly affected by service changes via all distribution channels, including electronic display screens at the ferry terminals, websites, social media, text messages and e-mails. The same information, plus additional operational data, can also be shared internally to Red Funnel’s operational staff to ensure they can assist passengers with travel arrangements.

“The ability to capitalise on our investment in Hogia’s products, and continuously add value by integrating additional applications, is unique,” said Jonathan Green, marketing and communications director at Red Funnel Ferries.

The company now plans to integrate real-time train departures into the system.

“We are happy to be able to help Red Funnel in making travel by public transport as easy and attractive as possible,” said Gary Umpleby, general manager at Hogia Transport Systems in the UK. “A vital part of an integrated public transport service is a coordinated information exchange between transport modes. The passenger experience should be one of a seamless journey, regardless of how many modes of transport are used.”
