Grammy award-winning musical artist, award-winning actress, label president, author and entrepreneur Queen Latifah has been named the godmother to Carnival Cruise Line’s newest ship, Carnival Horizon.

Queen Latifah will officially christen Carnival Horizon during an invitation-only overnight gala in New York City on 23 May 2018. She will also participate in an exclusive ‘Lip Sync Battle: Horizon’ showcase, which is part of Carnival’s shipboard reproduction of the hit Paramount Network TV series.

“With her fun-loving spirit and positive, can-do attitude, Queen Latifah embodies our brand and knows how to ‘Choose Fun’ in everything she does,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.

During the christening gala, Carnival will also present long-time partner St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with a cheque for donations raised via various onboard and onshore activities and events. In addition, Carnival will unveil custom-designed artwork created by more than 30 St. Jude patients that will appear on the Carnival Horizon’s Dreamscape, a three-deck-high LED sculpture in the atrium.

“Carnival is an iconic American brand and it’s an honour to be named godmother of Carnival Horizon and take part in the event on 23 May, honouring the special children of St. Jude – a cause that is very near and dear to my heart,” said Queen Latifah.

Once named, Carnival Horizon will sail summer cruises from New York, before starting year-round Caribbean cruises from Miami, Florida in late September.
