Princess Cruises is to name its new ship Majestic Princess when she launches in Shanghai in summer 2017.

Designed as a sister to Royal Princess and Regal Princess, the 3,560-guest Majestic Princess will be the first to have been built specifically for the Chinese market and will homeport year-round in Shanghai. She will offer cruises to Japan and Korea.

Majestic Princess will also carry a Chinese name chosen by Carnival Corporation & plc’s employees on the hull. The name, Shèng Shì Gōng Zhǔ Haò, translates as Grand World or Grand Spirit.

“Royal Princess and Regal Princess were named after iconic previous vessels, while Majestic Princess will carry a name that was chosen by our global employees,” said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises. “The name Majestic Princess is well suited to the Princess Cruises experience in China, and she will offer a truly magnificent experience to our Chinese guests.”

Currently under construction at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard in Italy, the 143,000gt vessel will feature a multi-storey atrium, the Princess Live! interactive studio, the Chef’s Table Lumiere private dining experience, and SeaWalk, a glass-bottomed walkway extending 28ft beyond the edge of the ship. Accommodations will be configured to appeal to families and multi-generational travellers and all outside staterooms will have private balconies.

Onboard restaurants will offer cuisine from Italy, France, North and South America, Southeast Asia, Japan and China, while entertainment options will include Movies Under the Stars, Princess Water Colour Fantasy fountain and light show, theatre shows, performances from international artists and cultural festivals celebrating dance, music and crafts.

Like all of Princess’ China-based ships, Majestic Princess will showcase the brand’s exclusive Princess Class experience designed specifically for the Chinese market. As part of this programme, guests can enjoy the World Leaders Dinner and Traditional English Afternoon Tea, special culinary experiences, Ultimate Balcony Dining and duty-free shopping.

“Every day around the world our guests create lifelong memories from authentic experiences while enjoying freshly made cuisine designed to bring each destination to life,” said Swartz. “Majestic Princess will allow us to bring the best the world has to offer to more Chinese guests, for an unparalleled premium and international vacation, inspired by our passion for the many places we sail.”
