Princess Cruises is to offer new interactive onboard activities for Shark Week, as part of its partnership with Discovery Consumer Products, the licensing arm of Discovery Communications pay-TV programmer.

Based on Discovery’s Shark Week , which will air 5-12 July 2015, the new Shark Week at Sea programme has been designed to educate passengers about the animals. It will include an interactive Swim with the Sharks competition, a quiz-style fact-finding activity, an onboard party, prize giveaways and more. Guests will also be able to watch select previews of Shark Week programmes and watch Ninja Sharks, which highlights six of the world’s most dangerous sharks.

“We know how wildly popular Shark Week is worldwide and we're excited to bring even more fun, education and entertainment to our guests,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises president. “Through our Discovery at Sea partnership, we offer our guests exclusive themed activities and TV content we know they will enjoy.”

Each year, Princess will offer enhanced Shark Week experiences on select cruises. In 2015, Shark Week at Sea will kick off on Golden Princess’s 21 June and 1 July departures from San Francisco, California, and Ruby Princess’s 28 June and 5 July departures from Seattle, Washington.

During these voyages, guests will enjoy the usual Discovery at Sea activities and exclusive Shark Week offerings including shark-themed entertainment, food and beverages. Each ship will also feature one elevator that has been decorated to give the impression that guests are inside a shark cage and public restrooms will feature themed mirror decals. Guests will also be able to meet costumed ‘sharks’, or take photos using the green screens and photo borders located around the ship.

Families travelling with children aged 3-12 years old will receive a rubber shark toy and prizes for Shark Week activities. They will also be able to participate in shark-themed activities including crafts, t-shirt decorating, temporary tattoos and face painting.

In addition, each cruise ship will host a Shark Week Premiere Party, which will enable guests to watch a live stream of Shark Week content, trivia games and prize giveaways.
