Portsmouth International Port is to kick off its 2017 cruise season with a call from Phoenix Reisen’s Deutschland on 22 April.

Calling at the start of an 18-night cruise to the Canary Islands, Deutschland will arrive in the UK port with more than 500 passengers from Hamburg, Germany. The ship will return to Portsmouth on 25 July as her final stop on a round Britain cruise before she returns to Bremerhaven, Germany.

“After a busy Easter break looking after ferry passengers, everyone here at the port is looking forward to the start of our 2017 cruise season,” said Rupert Taylor, harbour master at the port. “I’ll be personally welcoming the passengers and crew of Deutschland to Portsmouth International Port, and wishing them a wonderful day out in our fantastic maritime city and the surrounding area. Visiting cruise ships are not just a key part of business at the Port, they are increasingly important to the local economy.”

This year, Portsmouth International Port will welcome maiden calls from Crystal Cruises’ Crystal Symphony and Viking Ocean Cruises’ Viking Star. A number of ships will make turnaround calls before the season closes on 6 December with a call from Phoenix Reisen’s Artania.
