Spain-based naval architect Oliver Design is to develop the architectural design for Australian operator Scenic’s first-ever discovery yacht, Scenic Eclipse.
Working in collaboration with Finnish naval engineering firm Foreship, Oliver Design has produced the architectural design for a 300sqm spa with Jacuzzi-type swimming pools, six onboard restaurants, a 240-seat theatre, an outdoor pool with a retractable roof, cabins and luxury suites for 228 passengers, and an onboard garage that will accommodate several kayaks, six inflatable dinghies and a small submarine. The vessel will also include a large heliport a two hangars for helicopters in the ship’s upper stern.
To be built by Uljanik Group in Croatia, Scenic Eclipse is to be delivered in summer 2018 and has been designed with the highest passenger ship ice-class rating – Polar Class 6 – to allow it to operate in polar waters. The yacht will also be equipped with zero-speed stabiliser fins that are 50% larger than the standard model. The vessel will be powered by ABB’s Azipod D propulsion system and will be certified by international classification society Bureau Veritas.
Scenic Eclipse will sail her maiden voyage between Istanbul, Turkey and Venice, Italy in August 2018. A further 20 itineraries are scheduled in the Mediterranean, the Norwegian fjords, Antarctica, the Arctic and various routes in North and South America.
