MSC Cruises has revealed more details about MSC Meraviglia, a next generation smart ship launching in 2017.

The ship will spend its inaugural summer season in the western Mediterranean, calling at a number of historic destinations and offering a tailored programme of excursions.

Among the details unveiled is that the Cirque du Soleil will perform two unique shows, six nights a week, in the ship’s Carousel Lounge. This lounge has been designed to meet the needs of a range of performers, and the Cirque du Soleil will be able to use a circular performance space featuring a 180-degree circular glass wall.

The MSC Meraviglia will also contain an amusement park and children’s area, designed to meet the needs of families and providing a safe place for children to play. This area includes a DOREMI Studio Lounge – a dedicated lounge for all family activities – and a DOREMI Tech Lab for children who love technology.

The ship also features an onboard Aqua Park and a Himalayan Bridge, where guests can attach themselves to a rope and cross the ship, 60 metres above the water.

In terms of accommodation, the MSC Meraviglia features an enhanced Yacht Club, spanning three decks with 78 suites, 15 inside cabins and two apartments.

A number of modular cabins system, unique to MSC Cruises, have also been created to accommodate multi-generational families. Up to three cabins can be combined together to accommodate up to 10 guests. In addition to the modular cabins, quadruple cabins can accommodate a family of up to four people each.

12 venues across the MSC Meraviglia will offer fine and casual dining options, while a Mediterranean style indoor promenade will form the social centre of the ship, and will be a focal point for a number of leisure activities.

The MSC Meraviglia has a scheduled first cruise date of 4 June 2017.
