Mike Corrigan is to become CEO of Interferry on 31 March 2017, replacing interim CEO Darrell Bryan.

Corrigan will leave his current position as president and CEO of Canada’s BC Ferries at the end of March and immediately assume his role at Interferry. He has held several roles at Interferry, including director and treasurer.

“His experience leading BC Ferries, one of the world’s largest ferry operators, means he comes to the position knowing first-hand what many of our members’ experience, and how regulations being set for deep-sea shipping are not always appropriate for ferry operations,” said Mike Grainger, Interferry chairman. “He has also served as an Interferry director for six years, most recently as treasurer, so he also knows the challenges and the opportunities that lie ahead for the industry.”

Corrigan said he plans to ensure that the industry’s voice is well represented to international regulators and that members maximise the opportunities to network and share best practices.

“I am excited to be leading Interferry, advocate on behalf of our industry, focus efforts on passenger and operational safety and build the reputation of ferry operators around the world,” said Corrigan. “I believe the experience I’ve gained for the past 13 years in leadership positions at BC Ferries can be leveraged to good effect in my new role.”

Interferry has around 600 member representing more than 200 companies – including operators and suppliers – from 35 countries. Together with its members, Interferry represents the ferry industry on regulatory and policy matters, notably through its consultative status at the International Maritime Organization.

The Canadian Ferry Association (previously the Canadian Ferry Operators Association), which is the national voice of Canada’s ferry industry, has congratulated Corrigan on his appointment.

“The Canadian Ferry Association is very pleased to congratulate Mike Corrigan on this appointment and we are thrilled that a Canadian with his experience and knowledge will be leading international efforts for the ferry sector,” said Serge Buy, CEO of the Canadian Ferry Association. “We look forward to working with Mike in this new capacity, starting next spring, and thank him for his leadership in advancing the ferry sector here in Canada.”
