Lloyd Werft held a steel-cutting ceremony for Crystal River Cruises’ four new river vessels at its yard in Germany on 9 May.

Edie Rodriguez, president and CEO of Crystal, pressed the button that initiated the steel-cutting machine to begin the river yachts’ construction. Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, chairman and CEO of Crystal’s parent company Genting Hong Kong, and Lloyd Werft’s managing director Rüdiger Pallentin also attended the ceremony alongside representatives from local German chambers.

“This seemingly simple act was an absolute thrill, as it represents a very important milestone in the growth of the Crystal brand,” said Rodriguez. “It was my honour to stand with the leaders of our wonderful parent company and the acclaimed Lloyd Werft Shipyard, and to enjoy the support of the local community leaders, as we continue the process of ushering in the new era of Crystal with Crystal River Cruises.”

Crystal Debussy, Crystal Ravel, Crystal Mahler and Crystal Bach are scheduled to debut on Europe’s rivers in summer 2017 alongside sister ship Crystal Mozart, which will mark Crystal’s entry into the river cruise market this July.

Each vessel will feature a spa and fitness centre, various dining and entertainment venues, two 500sqft Penthouse Suites, and 250sqft guest suites with walk-in wardrobes, American king-size beds and bathrooms with double vanities.
