Holland America Line’s Nieuw Statendam is to feature eight more staterooms than sister ship Koningsdam when she debuts from Fincantieri’s shipyard in Marghera, Italy this December.

Second in Holland America’s Pinnacle Class, the 2,666-guest Nieuw Statendam will offer 103 ocean view cabins and 280 interior staterooms – a respective increase of five and three from Koningsdam.

Holland America has also redesigned all stateroom and suite categories to include more “thoughtful touches” and “innovative additions” onboard Nieuw Statendam, compared to Koningsdam.

“As with every new ship, we’ve listened to guest feedback and made our own assessments that have led to exciting changes to Nieuw Statendam that will enhance our stateroom experience across every category,” said Orlando Ashford, president of Holland America Line. “Staterooms should be a sanctuary for our guests, and they are going to appreciate the elegance, functionality and extra-special touches to be found on our newest ship.”

Changes will affect the designs of the 851 veranda and veranda spa accommodations, as well as the 12 single ocean view staterooms and the 32 ocean view family staterooms. Able to accommodate five guests, the family staterooms have been reconfigured to offer more living space, two bathrooms and extra closet space.

Suites will also be larger and “more luxurious” than onboard Koningsdam. The reimagined 1,290-square-foot Pinnacle Suite will have an open-concept design with a combined living room and dining area, as well as a bedroom, dressing room and a private veranda with a whirlpool. The suite will also have a grand entrance, new colour scheme, custom furniture and a double-sided television. Like guests in the 43 Neptune Suites and two Neptune Spa Suites, guests in the Pinnacle Suite will be able to access the exclusive Neptune Lounge, which will be expanded for Nieuw Statendam to allow for additional seating and more windows. The fleetwide lounges provide work tables, a large-screen television, a library, sofas and chairs, and complimentary refreshments throughout the day.

Guests will also be able to choose from 14 Signature Suites and 104 Vista Suites, all of which offer special amenities including oversized bath towels, fresh flowers, a pillow menu, mini bar and one-touch phone concierge service. Meanwhile, spa suites and staterooms located near to the Greenhouse Spa and Salon come with yoga mats for use during the voyage and an iPod docking station.

In addition to more space and sophisticated décor, Holland America will also offer new amenities onboard Nieuw Statendam. They will include bedside USB ports, customised wood cabinets, frameless glass shower doors and premium massage showerheads, Holland America's signature Mariner's Dream bed, bathrobes for use during the voyage, flat-panel TVs with video-on-demand, mini fridges, and toiletries from Elemis Aromapure.
