Hatenboer-Water is to supply water treatment equipment for Saga Cruises’ new Spirit of Discovery, which are currently under construction at Meyer Werft’s Papenburg yard in Germany.

The Netherlands-based company will deliver two re-hardening/neutralising filters with carbon dioxide gas dosing, as well as several dosing skids with all necessary dosing, measuring and control devices.

The equipment will take fresh water from wastewater generated during Spirit of Discovery’s in-port bunkering or seawater desalination processes. Once stored, the fresh water is hardened by neutralising filters and then disinfected with chlorine, before it is pumped into the ship’s distribution systems. Here, it subsequently undergoes another cycle of disinfection and possible pH adjustment.

Meyer Werft will install the system, which will then be commissioned by Hatenboer-Water.

Saga Cruises’ 55,900gt Spirit of Discovery is due for delivery in summer 2019 and will accommodate almost 1,000 passengers. The cruise line also has an option for a second ship, which is scheduled to be finalised in 2021.
