Holland America Line’s (HAL) Koningsdam is to feature the line’s first purpose-built family and single-traveller staterooms when she debuts in February 2016.

The newbuild will offer a total of 1,331 guest accommodations, including 912 staterooms with verandas – the most in HAL’s fleet.

Ranging from 222 to 231 sq ft, the 32 family staterooms can accommodate five people and offer two bathrooms and ocean views, while the 12 single ocean-view cabins will range from 127 to 172 sq ft in size and are located in various areas of the ship.

“A cruise is one of the most popular ways to travel as a family and we continue to welcome more multigenerational groups each year,” said Richard Meadows, executive vice president, sales, marketing and guest programs. “To help us better serve families, we are pleased to be able to offer these tailored staterooms on Koningsdam. And the new one-person staterooms enable us to serve the growing market of solo travellers.”

In addition, Koningsdam will offer a 1,290 sq ft Pinnacle Suite with a bedroom, living room, dining area, dressing room and private veranda with whirlpool, as well as two Neptune Spa Suites and 43 Neptune Suites, which range from 465 to 855 sq ft.

Both Neptune and Pinnacle Suite guests can access the exclusive Neptune Lounge, which features work tables, a large television, a library, sofas and chairs, complimentary refreshments and a personalised concierge service. Suite guests will also be provided with corsages and boutonnieres for the first formal night, an invitation to a cocktail party with the ship’s officers, priority dining and seating requests, binoculars and umbrellas for use during the cruise, a wall-unit bar, cold hors d’oeuvres served before dinner each evening on request and complimentary laundry, pressing and dry cleaning throughout the cruise and more.

Meanwhile, Koninsgdam’s 14 Signature Suites measure up to 400 sq ft and the 104 Vista Suites range from 260 to 356 sq ft. Guests in these suites will receive personalised cruise stationery, oversized bath towels, fresh flowers, a pillow menu, mini bar and one-touch phone concierge service.
All of Koningsdam’s staterooms and suites – including the 266 standard staterooms – are outfitted with bedside USB ports, frameless glass shower doors and premium massage shower heads, HAL’s signature Mariner’s Dream Bed, flat-panel TVs with video-on-demand, mini fridge, complimentary fresh fruit on request and Elemis Aromapure toiletries.

“HAL is known in the cruise industry for providing well-appointed staterooms,” said My Nguyen, the line’s deputy director of interior design. “With Koningsdam we enhanced these qualities by including many thoughtful details that improve the functionality of the staterooms. We also adopted a colour palette that takes advantage of texture and quiet colour combinations to achieve a feeling of serenity and luxuriousness in each category.”
