Fincantieri has laid the first keel block for Viking Ocean Cruises’ sixth new ship at its yard in Ancona, Italy.

To be delivered in 2019, the newbuild will be identical to her sister ships and offer accommodation for around 930 passengers. The yet-to-be-named vessel will also have modern safety systems, energy-efficient engines and technologies, and an exhaust gas cleaning system to ensure it meets environmental regulations.

This is the sixth cruise ship Fincantieri has built for Viking. The company’s Marghera yard delivered Viking Star in March 2015, while the Ancona yard delivered Viking Sea, Viking Sky and Viking Sun in 2016 and 2017. The latter is also scheduled to hand over the fifth vessel, to be named Viking Orion, in 2018. The seventh and eighth vessels will be delivered in 2021 and 2022 respectively.
