Grammy award-winning DJ, songwriter and record producer David Guetta is to perform at the official christening ceremony for AIDA Cruises’ AIDAnova, which will be held on 31 August 2018 at Meyer Werft’s shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

The AIDA Open Air event will be the first ship christening ceremony that has taken place at Meyer Werft in two decades. Invited guests will be able to enjoy an evening of entertainment, which will include the official naming ceremony and traditional ship blessing, as well as Guetta’s solo live performance and a light and fireworks display. AIDA will also live stream the christening event on its website and across its 12 ships.

AIDA will reveal the name of the ship’s godmother soon.

“We want to share our excitement about the first ship of a new AIDA generation with as many people as possible and are looking forward to an unforgettable AIDA Open Air with 25,000 guests,” said Felix Eichhorn, AIDA president. “At the same time, celebrating the first christening of a cruise ship at the Meyer Werft shipyard in more than 20 years is our way of expressing our gratitude to the many thousands of people who have contributed to the construction of AIDAnova, the eighth AIDA cruise ship to be built on the River Ems.”

AIDAnova, which will be the first fully LNG-powered cruise ship, will embark on a voyage to Eemshaven in the Netherlands for her sea trials in mid-September. She will then undergo final outfitting before being handed over from Meyer Werft to AIDA on 15 November in Bremerhaven.

Following her delivery, AIDAnova will sail several premiere voyages and then embark on her official maiden voyage from Hamburg, Germany to the Canary Islands on 2 December. The vessel will then offer seven-day cruises to the Canary Islands and Madeira.
