René Trépanier, executive director of Cruise the Saint Lawrence (CSL) in Canada, has been awarded the 2015 Cruise Award by the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA).

Presented every two years, the award recognises an individual whose efforts have positively impacted port and cruise industry relations in the western hemisphere. Candidates are selected based on the impact their efforts have on an international, national and regional level.

“The honour bestowed upon René Trépanier was hugely merited, reflected favourably on our destination as a whole and projected the Saint Lawrence on the world stage,” said Tony Boemi, president of Cruise the Saint Lawrence.

Cruise the Saint Lawrence is an organisation formed of nine ports of call located on the Saint Lawrence River. The organisation collaborates with all Destination Saint Lawrence partners to promote both the entire region and the individual ports of call. Since implementing this strategy, the economic impact of the cruise industry in Quebec has doubled from 2008 to 2012. Growth is forecast to continue over the next few years.

“Regarding the recipient of this year’s award, René Trépanier is broadly recognised as the face of marketing for Destination Saint Lawrence and the driving force behind the cruise industry success of the nine member ports of call spread out along on this vast expanse of commercial waterway in Canada,” said AAPA officials.
