Blue World Voyages, which bills itself as the world’s first cruise line fully dedicated to sports and wellness, is to launch its inaugural cruise ship in summer 2019.

The new ‘active lifestyle cruising’ brand has been created to capitalise on the growing global wellness industry, which is now worth US$4.2 trillion, and wellness tourism which is increasing at more than double the rate of general tourism. Therefore, the 350-guest ship will have onboard features and itineraries targeted at travellers who wish to stay healthy and active while on their cruise.

The vessel will be the first in the cruise industry to dedicate an entire deck to sports, exercise and wellness. It will have golf and soccer simulators, batting cages, a functional training centre, yoga, spinning and Total Body Resistance Exercise studios. Another full deck will be dedicated to rejuvenation, featuring a spa with a therapy tub, indoor and outdoor treatment rooms and a solarium.

Other highlights will include three pools, including a seawater lap pool that will be lowered directly into the ocean adjacent to the vessel when docked. Guests will also benefit from locally sourced farm-to-table cuisine and active shore excursions including snorkelling, scuba diving, hiking, kayaking, biking, running and more.

“Blue World Voyages was created for health-conscious individuals, sports and fitness enthusiasts, and those in search of personal improvement,” said Gene Meehan, chairman and founder of Blue World Voyages. “Our focus on active lifestyle cruising is not an option or an add-on; it forms the core of our overall cruise travel experience, deeply embedded in every aspect of the product, from ship design and onboard programs to dining options and itineraries.”

Blue World Voyages’ ship will spend her maiden season in the Mediterranean, offering cruises to Italy, Greece, Spain, France, Portugal, Corsica and Croatia.
