Azamara Club Cruises’ Azamara Journey has been fitted with new venues, public spaces and technologies during a ‘major’ refurbishment in Freeport, Bahamas.

Working in collaboration with several design consultants from the hospitality, leisure and entertainment industries, Azamara renovated all staterooms and suites onboard Azamara Journey. In addition to fully redesigning the Club World Ocean and Owner’s Suites, the line built two Spa Suites adjacent to the Sanctum Spa. Guests in the two suites will have exclusive access to spa amenities.

Azamara Journey’s dining and entertainment venues have also been overhauled, including the Spirits bar and the nearby casino, which received new slot machines, carpets and reupholstered seating with custom-designed fabrics.

New furniture and tables for two were added to Windows Café and Sunset Bar, while the Pool Grill was transformed into The Patio with the help of new lighting, ceilings, fans, tablecloths and a Swirl & Top self-serve frozen yogurt station. The venue will also offer a new evening menu and occasional live entertainment while guests are eating.

Similarly, the Looking Glass Lounge has been upgraded with chairs, sofas and a handcrafted wooden wine table to become the Living Room. In the evening, the venue will offer dancing, karaoke or live music from one of the ship’s onboard musicians followed by a house DJ. On occasion, guests will be able to enjoy speciality performances, or desserts from the ship’s chef.

In addition, Discoveries Restaurant has been outfitted with new décor, lamps, seats and tables, while Discoveries Bar has new bar stools, sofas, chairs and tables, painting and wood trim.

“There is no area on the ship that has not been touched,” said Larry Pimentel, president and CEO of Azamara Club Cruises. “Known for our land programmes to provide our guests with the most personalised destination immersion experiences in the industry, Azamara needed to take our onboard product to the next level. Cruise ships are like fine hotels, after wear and tear, upgrades need to be made. We can’t wait to have our new and loyal guests onboard to see what we have done. It’s gorgeous and provides all the modern services and amenities that today’s traveller needs and demands.”

Azamara Journey’s sister ship, Azamara Quest, will enter dry dock in April 2016 in Singapore.
