Keel laid for Anthem of the Seas

Rebecca Gibson

The first section of Anthem's keel was laid at the Meyer Werft yard in Germany

Royal Caribbean International held a keel laying ceremony for Anthem of the Seas at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany on 19 November.

During the ceremony, which signalled the start of the ship’s physical construction, a 620 ton block was lifted into the building dock.

Anthem of the Seas is one of the line’s latest 167,800 gt Quantum-class vessels, which will offer a range of new features. These include The SeaPlex, RipCord by iFLY and the North Star, which transports guests more than 300 ft above the ocean and more. The 4,180-guest ships will also have the industry’s first Virtual Balcony staterooms, which offer real-time views of the ocean from interior staterooms.

Anthem of the Seas is set to debut in spring 2015, following the launch of sister ship Quantum of the Seas in autumn 2014.
